(first time using one of these hope this works) anyway it looks like its probably timeing chain worn through backside of wtr pump, replaced head gasket today, and still getting water in oil. the head and cylinder looked ok visually, havent done any tests on them, dont really know how, but my main question is when i pull the valve cover back off and look to see if it is the chain guides that are gone i dont really know what im looking for, especially if they are missing. Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks

 

also there is not just a little mixing of oil and water its alot, so please correct me if im way of base here but if it was a cracked head or in the water jacket wouldnt it be a pretty noticeable crack that you would definetly be able to see or feel when you have the head off

never mind took a look at it this morning and the chain has worn through the timing cover. thanks for the reply Elton

 

my 88 did the same thing got head re surfaced and tested and still geting watter in my oil how and what should i look for when trying to figue out the problem

 

This thread is 3 years old. Might want to do a search. Maybe start you own thread.
I would re-check torque specs on head again and maybe do a compression test.

 

Well now, he searched, at least. But when you remove the valve cover, you should see a guide coming all the way up to nearly the top of the driver's side of the timing chain. If it isn't there, that could well be your problem. Search a little more, this has been covered alot. Google often returns better results than just searching here. Enjoy!
