89 pickup DLX. Ok so when it rains i get leaking through the dash onto the feet of both drivers and passengers. Ive searched these forums. Ive searched google and most people talk about the floor being wet but not water dripping onto your feet when it rains. i ran a hose in the vent area of the hood and didnt have water come through. Has anyone had this problem? Also i thought the windshield was the problem so i brought it to a shop and they found a gap in the sealant. I figured that was the problem but it wasnt because it continues to leak after the shop filled the hole. The only thing i can come up with is that water got into the lower track for the windshield and caused holes from rust which allow water to drip through it. But i would like some reassurance before i pull the window out wasting both time and money. Thanks for the help in advance.

 

Yes it is a very common issue to rust behind the windshield and leak down to both sides, lots of threads on issues ranging from stinky wet floors, wet ecu's/fuse panels etc. some repairs are easy some have rotted away and need to be completely cut and redone.

I have heard the chrome trim causes some of these issues over time? When I did mine I had them replace with a rubber seal which I think looks better anyway.

yeah everything i could find while searching talked about damp carpet not so much raining on feet. im trying to determine if i should try and tackle it myself or take it to someone. im mechanically inclined, but in now way am i at the level of cutting and welding in new fabrication. i would like to be but not at this time and would rather no learn on this project. but the problem is once you take it all apart its hard to get it somewhere since you have no windshield.

 

It could also be coming in at the top of the windshield and running down the channel, for peace of mind I would take the windshield out to inspect. Let us know what you find...

I had a truck that leaked around the same area
Turned out it was a seam in the area where the fender apron met the firewall and wiper drip tray.

had to take off the fender and wiper valance to find it.

They sealed this up with seam sealer from the factory. Started rusting and the seam sealer let go. started rusting some more and made a hole into the cab where the water would run down and pool on the floor.

 

sorry took so long to respond. ended up the windshield only needed to be pulled and reglued in. saved me a ton of money and bs for sure.

 

on my 88 the water was running between the hood and fender onto the hood release cable and then in to the cab water was dripping heavily on the floor

 

This makes me think even more about ripping my carpet out and rhino lining the floor/fabbing some drain plugs. Glad you got it fixed without much BS. You're not a helicopter CE by chance are you?

 

lol no I'm not I already took my carpet out gotta clean up a lil surface rust and I'm gonna use bed liner on my floor

 

when i took the carpet out ther was a drain plug already it the floor

 

Another issue I have seen is the windshield cowl hold alot of debris and cause rust to put a hole below the cowl. Suggest pulling the cowl and getting all of the leaves and such out and doing any repairs needed there. Then pull the inner fender in front of the mudflaps and get the trash out of there as well, at the back part of the fender.
