Very slow crank no start 22re
Hey guys been reading the forums tried searching but no luck. Having an issue with my 1991 22re starting up. When I got to start it sometimes it slowly starts to crank then dies and some times it doesn’t even crank. I replaced the battery already so it’s not that. would like to get some input before I just start the ping parts at it.
some background info. Truck was a hobby truck from the previous owner some stuff is not where it should be. Motor blew in it and did a swap on a new 22re and ever since then been having issues. Fuel related ones are when I give it gas it has to much fuel and bogs down. Have to slowly accelerate. Changed injectors for that. Got it back from mech and it doesn’t want to start. Any help would be appreciated.

If its cranking but just too slow to start and sometimes doesn't crank at all, its most likely a power supply issue, either dead battery or bad wiring. Check for 12v at the battery, even if its new. If the battery is fully charged its probably a wiring/contact issue. Check the battery leads for corrosion and make sure your grounds are nice and tight. Make sure the lugs on the battery where the wires connect are able to get nice and snug, you shouldn't be able to move them at all. You can also pull your alternator and have it tested at most any auto parts store.

i ended up putting a new starter in it as i think it just needed one anyway since the truck was never taken care of. got it starting yesterday but it was running really rich, like black smoke. Im working on it today and its not starting again but no slow crank.
From reading on here black smoke and rough idle mean its running rich. im trying to figure out what i should check next.

Check the CS Injector how? The CSI SHOULD function only during starting. IE: During cranking. Not during running after it starts. If it's functioning during run, there's your run rich operation. It's controlled y the Engine Temperature sensor. It should squirt when the ET is low enough, and the engine is cranking.

Find a listing someplace of the codes I looked in the books I have, and none listed those two codes. Doesn't mean squat, really, as I don't have the book for your truck. If it IS a code for the ECU, Check for the voltage that energizes the CSI, while it's cranking.. If it's not there, check the functioning of the CTS, and the wiring between it and the ECU.
Failing finding anything, take the cover off the ECU, and examine the board carefully. Look for cracked/broken/burnt runs, and burned components. Depending on your skill as a soldering guy, you find anything, you can repair it with components readily available from several locations.
I'm an electronic (radar) tech by trade. Repairing circuit boards like those is second nature for me, but I've see the work of amateurs. Makes me shudder...Often makes things worse. Be careful!
You can't repair it yourself, You'll need a "new" one. You may be able to find one from a Toyota dealership, RockAuto, or whatever. A junkyard is another good option. Make sure to ONLY get an OEM replacement for YOUR truck Use your VIN to be sure
Good luck!

i changed the tps and the code cleared. Anyway i took it to a mech and they got it workingm was a 280$ grounding issue. They checked it over and it still runs terrible with to much fuel. He told me when he takes off some vacum lines the idle gets much better. Anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is much appreciated
