Very Bad Gas Mileage
Hello Gents.
New to the site and was just wondering if anyone had suggestions about my 89' truck (22re) getting bad gas mileage? I commute to Baltimore and trying to find an economical solution other than replacing it (115,000 original miles). Any solutions are helpful and thanks in advance!

welcome to yotatech! i figured id chime in. 115k is very low for a 22re any idea on the previous maintenance? baring any neglect with the engine id just do a simple tune up and see what happens. whats your mpg currently? also having bigger tires will kill your mileage too.

Thanks for the welcome! I picked it up 10 years ago with 28,000 original miles on it from an older gentleman who didn't want to have the truck and his Avalon anymore. The only thing i did to it was put some alloy wheels, went up a tire size to 235X15 and put a pioneer deck in it. Far as maintenance, I replaced the crankshaft seal about 7 years ago and now that you mention it, a tune up about 6 years ago. Not sure of the actual mileage that I'm getting but it is pretty bad (since most of my driving is on the highway).

those things are not going to affect your gas milage.
You should be getting around 22 to 25 mpg on the highway maybe more with the tire size you have.
I would do a full tune up - plugs, plug wires (from the dealer), cap and rotor (from the dealer), adjust the valves, reset the timing change oil and filter THEN see how it goes.

One Other Suggestion
...I have based on experience is to check your fuel pressure regulator. It uses vaccum (as well as spring pressure) to open and close. If the diaphram is starting to leak, you can suck raw fuel through the vaccum hose.
