Valve adjustment and timing

I have a friend that just bought a 93 Toyota 4x4, his timing is advanced a few degrees. Would the valves that sound like they need adjusting affect his timing? I wasnt for sure but knew someone here would know

OHV motors make noise.. how much noise they make is determined by a few things, not just valve adjustment. If valves are real loose, they'll "tap" a lot - but if they're tight, they'll be quiet.

It's a 15 minute job to open up the valve cover.. Checking the valves is pretty easy.

Valve adjustment does not impact timing.
