need fuel filter help ASAP!

so I'm changing my fuel filter on my 94 3.0 and I got the input line nut cracked loose but after about a turn of loosening it tightens up.. pretty tight, and gas is coming out. I'm afraid of forcing it the rest of the way off but why would it be fine while loosening then tighten up? Any ideas what to do? Thanks

Its not reverse thread... counterclockwise loosened the nut, it turned well, and now its almost impossible to continue turning counterclockwise.

Definitely NOT reverse thread if its anything like the filter on my '95 22re...

Sounds like when it was put on it was cross threaded. Either that or there are just a bunch of deposits on the end of the fittings that's just binding on the way out.

Make sure you loosened the fuel cap to relieve the pressure then just go ahead and force it off. Once its cross-threaded there's not a whoile lot you can do. Or if it's deposits, there still isn't a whole lot else you can do.

Good news is that there's a good chance it will be ok going in to the new filter though. As long as the fitting doesn't break when you remove it.

figure the steel in the fitting is stronger than aluminum (?) on the filer end, so hopefully, if one is threaded corssways, its the filter, and the nut will be true.

Mine did the samething. But in my there was nothing I could of done about it so I just crimped and cut the tubing. After a trip to the stealership it was replaced.

The fuel will stop flowing out once it clears from the tubing.

what happened is the fitting was overtightened and the flaired end mushroomed out causing it to tighten up after it was broke loose. work the fitting loose back and forth while when removing and it will come off. it may be a little tight going back on but it will work. you may need to get a line wrench crows foot for the job to keep from rounding it off. i see it every day working at the dealer.

I got the filter out, both input and output sides were real tight after breaking loose. Needless to say it was a PITA on top of having no room. Thanks again for the help.
