Vacuum hoses and whatnot

So I'm not sure I am going to tackle having the whole intake side off and re-gasketed yet, but I am going to replace all those little hoses since I am pretty sure I've got a vacuum leak. This is a 88' 22re (it might be a junkyard block, but I'm assuming all the stuff on top is still 88). Can anyone give me a general idea of what size the hoses are and how much length of each size I will need to do this?

Also, is the EGR a simple and not-too-expensive, as well as a wise thing to replace? How about other sensors in that area?

I have the original microfiche slides (84-88) the dealer uses and I can give you part#'s for each hose if you want to go that route. It'll take a while to track down every hose and list it though. You can then enter the part#'s at 1sttoyotaparts.com and get them for a cheaper price than the dealer and they will all be pre-cut at the correct lengths.

whoa, really? That would be incredible! Post it on here or PM me.

Also, to save you some time, if you can just find out the various sizes there are and a general idea of how much I would need of each kind, that would be just as good.

Most of the little vacuum hoses are 7/32". You can buy the hose in bulk form from most auto parts houses. Just get 4 feet or so and cut it as needed. It's cheap.

Internetroadkill is correct. You can get the 7/32 hoses from your local auto parts store. I tried it 12 years ago and the hoses didn't fit quite right. They ended up in the trash a few months later.

The microfiche slides don't show the lengths of the hoses, they just give a part# for each hose from the throttle body/plenum to whatever device it's connected to. I think I'll list them all for future reference for anybody who wants to use factory hoses for a factory look, setup, and function for their 88 22re.

I'll start working on it tomorrow since Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s are my days off.

Great, thank you.

Just to clarify - are you saying that buying the 7/32" hoses from the auto parts store is NOT a good idea?

Pretty much. I can't remember (it was 12 years ago), but they either fit too tight or too loose. I knew there was a problem when my idle dropped 400 rpms with the new hoses. Put new Toyota hoses on it and the idle was back to normal.

If I remember correctly, you can purchase 7/32 hose from Toyota and cut it yourself. I remeber seeing that option on microfiche. I think they charged by the foot. I let you know tomorrow.

Okay, yeah, I would probably go to the Toyota place and do that. Thanks again for the info

I just took ONE hose off of my truck (So I know where it goes later) and took it to Autozone.. matched up the right hose, bought 10 FT of it.. then cut them to fit. It's just that simple. Plus the ones I bought are thicker than OEM.. so less of a chance for the vacuum pinching the lines themselves.
