V8 swap

Guys,
I have a 95 4runner with the infamous 3.slow. I was wondering if my 4runner would be even remotely possible to drop in a 4.6 V8 into it? I was curious on what problems I would likely run into if I wewre to try this. Thanks in advance on any info about this.

You would be better off dropping in a chevy 350 smallblock, it will fit easy and there are kits to do so. Another swap is the chevy 4.3L V6..

The 4.6 is much too wide, and maybe too tall. And the T/C drops on the wrong side.Much easier swaps are available and proven.

There is a guy on 4wheeler.ca that dropped a 5.0 cobra engine into an 85 runner, so I'm sure it can be done.

Advanced adapters makes adpaters and motor mounts for ford big and small blocks. You might look there.

But I agree, there are easier swaps out there.

Lt1 v8 chevy engines are great to swap in the distributor is in the front under the waterpump.you don't have to worry about firewall clearnce.I put one in a 90 vrunner had to do a 3 inch body lift to clear the trans though.

Oh yeah, I also already have a 3 inch body lift. I really would like to get some more power out of my 4runner, but I would prefer to keep it a toyota engine. Would it be much easier to just go with a 3.4? After all I would like to eventually go with the TRD supercharger setup anyhow. Thanks again for the info.

Good point but not practical for an off road truck hitting streams and water holes. How does it work for you? Sorry to hijack!

the one thing I dont like about the LT1 is the optispark being UNDER the waterpump. Get a leak in that waterpump and wham you need a new 350+ dollar ignition system...

4.7 is possible but a chevy 350 is easier and kits already exist like I said before. A few members run various yota V8's as well but it took a heck of alot of work in some cases.

I had a 1992 Vette before my 4Runner and my optispark went out. $600 and a whole Saturday later, we got it going again. LT-1 would be cool but an LS-1 would be cooler. I'm pondering putting a 302 in mine if I decide to pull the motor again.
