V6 or 4cyl?

V6 or 4cyl?
Hi everyone, first post here.
I am looking to get my first pickup, but I'm not sure which engine would be the better choice. I would prefer the power of the 3.0 V6, but I have yet to read anything good about it. There is a truck in my area that's a V6, and I really want to buy it, but I'm starting to think that I should look for a 4cyl instead.
Is the V6 really that bad? Why?
The truck will definitely be a 5 speed, so does that help balance out the gas mileage and power flaws of the V6? Or should I just look for a 4cyl?

I haven't owned a 4 cyc but I have been out with a friend out on a couple trails who does. His 4 cyc does everything my 3.0 does exept mine climbs a hill faster. Same tire size. Usually he has to pull off and let all the cars past cause his truck just can't up up the hill and maintain speed.

It will probably be driven daily along with some mountain driving and off-roading. I may possibly be hauling landscaping equipment with it, but it's not really a necessity.

I've got an idea...let's have this argument again...for the umpteenbillionth time! That sounds like fun huh!?
Facts are there's just as many happy 4cyl. owners as the are V6 owners.
Though I still don't know why...considering the V6 is so much better in every respect. With the possible exception of fuel consumption...

4 cyl and its not even close...ive had both...only negative you ever hear about 4 cyl is timing chain guides which once repaired pretty much takes care of the problems...6cyl? well there are post after post of why not to have one. Again ive had both and between the two the 4 cyl is easy to work on and the 6cyl is a complete nightmare..gas milage on the 6 I had was bad and thats what you hear from most who have owned them. Aftermarket for the 3.0 isnt that great either..Now the 3.4, thats a different story..if you wanted a 6cyl look for 96-98 and you can find deals although I like the body style of my early 95 better but if you get a chance to drive a 3.4 6 cyl you will see a big difference and why they change to the 3.4 ...

I'd strongly consider a '96-newer Tacoma if you're starting out fresh -- more money but you get what you pay for. Better 4 cyl. and V6 engines altogether, better front suspension, factory rear locker available, etc. Why do I still have my '94 then? We have a history you can't replace.
