ok first off EVERY person who is replying to this is getting it all wrong and thinking he is hopping a curb on a busy street rush hour traffic and all that ... no its night time no ones around.. ya that's not the point but no one asked for your problem that you might have gotten into or to hear the ticket you might have gotten. The cops here are never around and its a parking lot or the curb to the lot..like all of you guys are burning him just for posting one thing. also making the assumption that hes an just cause hes a teen and ruining it all for the rest of you like wow shut the up.
904 where do you get the idea that his parents will pay for his ticket just cause he's a teen??
like shut the up thats totally beside the point of this. ITS JUST ONE POST!
if you dont like it then dont say anything to him. obviously no one got what he meant by "urban wheeling" not like hes doing lawn jobs and stuff..

No hes not some dumbass kid that thinks he invincible and can get away with everything..
You keep saying you know its illegal, but everybody does it and your gonna continue to do it..
hopefully one day you mature enough like the rest of us to realize that additional 30 seconds isn't going to matter much.. but until then keep breaking the law, but one of these days your gonna get ticketed, but im sure your parents will pay for the fines and nothing will change..

Thats cool,Ive read nothing but good about them.Discount tire wants 186$ per tire( 31s ) and right now thats out of my price range.BTW I have used my ground clearance to my advantage before, some one parked behind me blocking me in,couldnt back up so I opted for the ditch in front of me.No harm no foul.

I won't lie, I urban wheel all the time. Every chance i get actually, I love doing it haha. I guess everyone else on the road thinks im an jerk, but i get some kind of weird thrill about everyone scowling upon me haha. If it makes you all feel better i mostly do that in my big loud dodge haha

Anyway not to cause a quarrel here.. I'd just like to share my perspective. I'm a 20 year old college student down here in Bay Area, CA. Wish I had caught this thread a bit sooner.
I've got a 198? 4Runner-thing (SFA) (refer to sig) with dry rotted 33" tires cus I'm too cheap for new ones. I did my fair share of "urban wheeling" (I'm not a skateboarding fan at all, but gotta admit... catchy phrase you've fabricated). Its cut down quite a bit for me... as others have said it gets boring as you get older. But... on slight occaison, I will take it upon myself to squeeze along the top of the curb to the nearest red light... or cross over to that segregated parking lot. Or even park with one tire up on the parking space wedge. I guess you could say it lets people know I have a large Johnson
Nah I'm just kidding, I've accepted the size.Anyway... funny story. Skipped school for a day to do urban wheeling back in my when-I-was-even-stupider senior class days. Got a little too hard core making a reverse-180 in a high center of gravity rig and over it went. The body swap thread for that one is still floating around here somewhere... but you sure do learn something from it.
But, like the original poster said, its an occaison thing and not an everyday hobby. As long as it is away from others and doesn't destroy things... I'm not judgemental about it. It's something to be grown out of naturally.

sometimes its nice to be able to hop a parking lot curb. i see no harm in that. there are many instances of terrible civil engineering here which really encourage people to do some 'urban wheeling'.

I remember taking my motorcycle course and the instructor said "if I ever see you lane splitting (going between cars at intersections) I will open my door and take you out" ... it is so easy on a motorcycle to do these things but I don't because it really does give riders a bad name.
As for the curb at a tim's... if you need to go over it.. sure. If you do it just to piss the lady off or look cool then that is just dumb. I have gone over curbs and other things if it was necessary... or out of the way with no one around... everyone does. The big difference is doing it for a good reason (right conditions) and doing it to get attention or a reaction.
edit: Just to point out how stupid I have been in the past.. we played tag with our cars in high school... on city streets *ashamed*

I try not to drive over anything while on the streets.
But I do eye ball obstacles around the highway and stare down hills and dips in the city that catch my eye as a fun place to run a line but I dont do it
I wish I could
I have caught myself daydreaming about running these urban obstacles on my way home form work most
Most I ever done was run over a bunch of dirt piles dumped by a dump truck

I have been known to do a little city crawlin myself, but its only when im turning into a lot on a busy street and some old granny is blocking the entire drive lane. I will hop the curb and pass her. Not something im proud of because its a symptom of my road rage. Try to avoid it though.

Why not run with the social behavior behind some of this? There are people who make laws, break laws, enforce laws and abide by laws. Now just because something is stated illegal, we are to completely disregard any notion of that action? There have been bad laws. There are bad laws. There will be bad laws. Law: A good servant but a bad master. The governments purpose was to be an extension of our will, the people. Not some looming overhead pressure and tension that by sheer weight alone should keep us in line. These are our lines.
Legality does not dictate morality.
If it is victimless, beneficial to myself, and I enjoy it, why wouldn't I?
In the same sense, you can often times find me urban climbing around billboards, buildings, rooftops, bridges, so on and so forth. I will not be a foreigner to my environment. I will enjoy my time and place.

If you don't agree with a law and want to break it, go right ahead. Just be prepared to face any consequences if caught, don't whine and moan when the man gives you a ticket.

I like the reference Mag.
I'd rather die free than live oppressed.
I weigh my consequences very precisely and take the risks I can shoulder.
We are all different people, hence the benefit of a widespread community like this. We can see it a hundred different ways. It helps.

I suppose, but you shouldn't forget the impact that your actions have on other people either. When some random person sees you breaking the law, they see all wheelers breaking the law.

The only significant urban wheeling my 4Runner has ever seen is:
1) Driving up a hill next to the onramp of a controlled-access highway. Immediately after the onramp traffic was at a dead halt due to a bad accident. I had a lockrite at the time and 2WD took me right up the steep grassy hill...
2) Testing out a swaybar disconnect system on a friend's concrete stoop - about 2' high with 3 steps or so.
Glad we can all up our post counts on a topic like this.

exactly, not like when i go out my whole mind set is where is the next curb i can hop, like when you go through the drive through somethimes ther are not meant for big trucks (like my dads chev pickup) so in order to make it you toss a whell on the curb through the turn. whenever i do hop a curb 99% of the time no one is around and i always make sure that there is nothing i can harm or damage.
