Twice in 2 nights...

... my cars were broken into. Obviously punk kids, but seriously this is pissing me off. 1st night, both Runners and my Alero (which the wife insists she locked). 2nd night, just the '91 since it's never locked - nothing in it. But they rifled through everything - TWICE! Took the wifes face-plate for her stereo, tried to get mine (disabled face removal, and 4 security torx bolts). Took her iPod transmitter, 6 CDs and two Cheer-leading music disc's. They skipped the satellite radio, Booster Pack, recovery gear and $5 in my door pocket.

So now I dunno. I wanna go get something to alert me if anything comes on my driveway but I think that might be overkill. Would they be so stupid as to try again?

Get a few motion lights, and maybe get a cover? Something to slow them down. I bet you can find motion alarms for relatively cheap too.

just leave a note on the car ..."your being filmed you piece of sh**"

that would make any potential thief take his antics to another block.

if not then you can sit in your car and then when he comes up....

when my cousin saw somebody slashing his tires, he whipped out a Smith and Wesson .44 mag and shot around them. That put the fear of god in 'em. I've never seen anybody run so fast. They never came near his house again. Just a thought.

damn I love threads like these, lemme think of somethin good.......here we go, put a full grown mastiff in the truck that hasent eaten for 3 days, and a camera overlooking your driveway, so you dont even haveto wake up, just watch it in the morning with a hot cup of coffee. orrrrrrr... you could camp out where they cant see you with a 32 pack of bud, and watch it live when they open the door, and dont forget to cheer your dog on, hes doing most of the work.

Really the best thing you can do is some motion lights that cover the whole driveway. I am getting a dual 300 watt halogen setup for mine.

Then get a cheap $10 fake camera and mount it in plain sight.

That will scare off the low level crooks, the better ones will do what they want no matter what.

I have the alarm on my Dodge hooked up to the switch wire of my train horn. I don't care how heavy of a sleeper you are, when you hear a deuce 30" grover air horn going off, you are out the door lickity split with a 12ga and a trail of something that may or may not be urine leading back to your bed.

Though I've replaced the grovers with a 4bell siege engineering set since then. Couple of my neighbors having heart attacks and whatnot... Now it just sounds like a semi truck instead of a cargo ship coming through your walls at 3am.

Please don't take this the wrong way... but have you just considered locking your doors from now on? Or maybe just not keeping anyhting of value in your cars if you choose to leave it unlocked?

I take an ass-load of vehicle prowl reports... and 95% are unlocked vehicles. Despite what you might believe... vehicle prowling is a crime of opportunity. Usually the local tweekers passing through, looking for quick easy score. Spare change, the purse & credit cards left behind, info to steal your identity, or stuff they can trade for dope.

It's pretty rare to see forced entry and even rarer still to run into pros who are using entry tools to unlock cars. Window smashers are usually going for the laptop computer left out in the open on the back seat (so don't leave it in thbere or keep it out of sight)... and generally, if someones talented enough to slim-jim your car, they're going to drive it away and strip it, too.

Anyway... I've always been a fan of wiring up a battery to the door handles. That way you don't have to worry about loosing sleep waiting for them to come back.

Not to put a damper on things, but that doesn't do anything. The body's resistance is far too high for 12v to do anything. Ask Ohm's Law. Or, better yet, go grab the battery terminals on your truck. You won't even get a tingle.

Now, 110v...that's a different story.

sit out at night so your not seen with a metal bar or something blunt. then when they come out, show them what the truck feels when they break in! it's all legal too! "It was self defence officer, i swear"
