Turbo Oil pump

Hi, I'm new here and I have a question for those of us who own 22RTEC trucks or have worked on them. I just purchased a Turbo truck (Hodakaguy's truck actually) I'm doing some preventative maintenance and changing the timing chain, water pump and such 136000 Mi, its probably time anyway. I have a new turbo oil pump to change while I'm in there, my question is how do I tell I actually recieved a turbo pump? I was comparing it with a 22r pump and there is no difference- the P/N on the box is 15100-35030 but the numbers on the pump casting have been ground off? I(ts an Aisin manufactured pump like the original) what gives?

Thanks

Dave

not sure what the difference is, but there is a different part # for the non-turbo (15100-35020)

turbo pump is a "higher volume" pump .. the part # U said , is the correct # for the higher volume pump ..

visually there are no differances .

My understanding is that the difference between turbo and non-turbo pumps is pitch on some of the drive gears. To the best of my knowledge, no aftermarket source exists for the 22RTE pump. Some people sell a 22RTE pump, but it's no different than the 22RE version.

Toyota may or may not carry the true 22RTE pump - honestly I'm not sure.

The "turbo" pump that I bought from DOA was actually a standard pump with a modified oil by-pass for higher pressure.

Unless you can get an authentic pump from the dealer, don't waste your money aftermarket... Note, I've never seen an oil pump fail. I have seen the drive gears get a little bit worn, however, I always replace them when rebuilding.

I was actually wanting to ask about this very topic:
1: I talked to DOA and he told me $155 for a turbo oil pump...little more than I wanted to spend

2: I talked to Engnbldr, and Ted told me they sell OP900T pumps for turbo applications, and that they put out 4% higher volume: $70

is 4% extra enough for the turbo? And is it enough to justify the extra cost ($48 from engnbldr for a normal)

DOA told me the same thing. I thought I was buying a turbo oil pump. That's not the case - you're buying a ported pump with a modified by-pass.. Did Tim tell you that?

I can't say if 4% is enough volume.

I can say that there have been numerous 22REs running turbo setups without oil related failures. Most aftermarket turbo setups run off the stock pump in one form or another. The LC Supercharger also runs off the stock pump on 1/8NPT fittings...

The turbo I've got on my motor actually has a restrictor on it so that the volume of oil to the turbo is somewhat limited.

No, he didn't pass along that little tid bit, just a price.

What size line is going into your turbo? Just a though, but I know turbos don't require a ton of oil(especially because they have coolant lines aswell), so mabey something as simple as a slightly smaller/restricted line could get around a smaller pump.

I don't think a "small" line is necessary. The supercharger kit for the 22R/22RE runs an 1/8th inch line.

I think I'm using a 6an line. Again, I've got an oil restrictor at the turbo, but it's mainly to deal with a high pressure pump.

I was under the impression that the increase in flow was in the range of 30% anyway it was difficult to get one, and I paid about 225 CDN for it. LCE which is the company I purchased the Timing kit from deducted the cost of the pump, because they had no turbo pumps, just High flow ones that I have been hearing about passed off as Turbo pumps, I feel better about installing this one, it was the ground off P/N on the pump that worried me

A ground off P/N would worry me too - what makes that pump "high flow".
Why grind off the P/N?
