Your criteria were the same as mine a few years ago, except I had to have my box made in the USA. I settled on the Challenger line by Deflecta Shield. Ran around 600 dollars.

My only complaint is that it is VERY hard to get to the tie down hooks.

i looked at the challenger series boxes and didn't want to give up the bed space/tie down location/price. To be honest though it looks good.

I like the lowes one, but the material seems thin. I wonder if that nice challenger unit is thicker?

Are the locks pretty solid on the the kobalt unit?

don't know about the challenger series box but for the lowes box yeah it's kinda thin and the locks seem a little weak but if some one really wanted to break into one of these it's not that hard no matter what they're made of. Then again there's a huge price difference between the two. With a 600 dollar price tag that challenger box better be one hell of a box.

Yeah, I really want a toolbox I can put my tools in and feel comfortable at least leaving it in the parking lot while im eating lunch. The kobalt unit didn't feel like it would take much to pop it open, but it would be ok to keep my stuff dry at least.

I don't know if it is thicker or how much thicker but I've stood on top of my box MANY times and no worries with it caving in.

I don't know about the kobalt but the challenger has duel locks and I only keep the driver side lock locked because I never want to walk around to the other side to get both locks. I have no worries doing this.

Cool, seems like a great deal for 150 bucks, and its low profile.
