Truck Bed ToolBox, What do you use?
So i wanted to get an idea of what is considered a good truck bed toolbox by everyone. Iv been wanting to put one in my truck for some time now, but there seem to be a lot of choices and i couldnt find much talk about them on YotaTech. Its going in an 88 Pickup Xtra cab.
For me i want something that will keep everything dry in rain/snow. Front bed mounted, Diamond-plate style (black), single lid, locking. Maybe a little angled on the side/top so it follows the curve of the cab as it goes up? 14 or so inches wide, and deep enough to so it basically hits the bottom of the bed. And not so high that i can see out the rear window. Doesn't sound that complex I don't think. What brand, style, setup would you get?
Thanks for your input
Pictures if you got them, come on, show off your stuff!

ive always liked teh Kobalt ones from lowes. tractor suppyl carries black ones to. my neighbor gave me a plastic one last night. its taller then the bed, but doesnt hang over the sides. im usin it for a few tools, tow straps, ratchet straps, antifreeze, water, oil etc

If you can, get an under the rails "chest" type box. My junk looked so much nicer without a toolbox.. I wish I would have taken the time and searched out a chest type box instead of buying the gargantuan of a tool box I have now.
I still love my toolbox though. I have way to much junk I carry with me on the trails and I couldn't see myself just having that stuff loose in the bed.
Carry on.

Damn thats a tough decision, i was pretty set on black. I feel like if i did the paint job it would get nicked up pretty fast not being powder coated.
Do you have any pictures from the front of your truck? Wondering how much you notice it sticking out. Thanks for the help!

yeah gimme a minute i'll snap a pic. To honest if you're worried about it chipping just paint it with some easy to find spray paint like a semi gloss rustoleum black. that's what i did on my bumpers and wheels so when they chip or get scratched i just hit them with a little paint and they're good as new. i was worried about them looking like crap with the rattle can job but it looks pretty good imo. Plus it's easy to maintain when you go on the trail and stuff gets scratched up you can fix it the next time you wash the rig. If you're gonna paint it just make sure to prep it.

here ya go.
you just might want to consider it as an option since many of the tool box manufacturers aren't making toolboxes for our trucks dimensions. Everything made now days is bigger and the compact trucks are just a little bigger too. The box sticks out around a half an inch on both sides but hardly noticeable and it was something i was willing to deal with for the right price. Most other boxes sold are 20-21 inches from front to back and that was too much since i haul my quads with this truck and didn't want to give up the space.

Looks good man, i think im gonna do this one. All the other black ones i can find on the web are for full size trucks, and are $300! How did you mount it? saw another thread on YT using an i-hook bolt with an S hook down to the tie-down hookups in the front corners, seemed like a good way to do it. I just got a LineX sprayed in and dont want to start drilling through the bed.
Can you reach your tie down hooks easily with how the bottom corners are chopped on the box?? Seems like a good compromise.

yeah i can reach the tie downs fine. i just drilled holes and mounted the box but the j hooks work great. i've used them on other trucks. post pics if you get one. they sell another mounting system i just bypassed it and used self tapping screw with some rubber washers.
