hi guys my daily driver is a 93 toyota pickup 5spd. with 2930XX and today it cranked but then when i tried to shift into 1st and leave for school it felt like when i tried to shift that the pedal had no "pressure" behind it and it went to the floor without enganging the clutch and i couldnt shift. i checked the cluthc fluid and its fine, the pedal free play is good and i cant figure out whats wrong with it. my dad said he took a look at it after i left and thinks it might be the slave cylinder; what can i do to fix this and does anyone know what else it could be? any help is appreciated!!!

 

Maybe you need to bleed the clutch

 

This exact thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I replaced the slave cylinder and it fixed it. Also replace the master cylinder while your at it. Fill her up and bleed her and you should be good to go.

gNARLS-It is very common for one to go out only a few hundred mile after the other. They both wear at about the same rate. What wears in them are the seals and aluminum parts in them. If you have ever buffed aluminum you will see that it gets a black coating. The same thing is going on in you master and slave cylinder, thats why the fluid turns black.

Newbie- As gnarls said it only takes like 20 minutes. It took me even less because i just put it on the lift at work. And be sure to bleed the clutch untill the fluid stops coming out black, and dont forget to top her off. Good luck

EDIT: I havent replaced my master cylinder yet because im a cheap basterd, so that will add a little time to it. And if you have them, use tubing wrenches to remove the clutch line.

 

How much is a new master and slave cylinder?

 

Slave cylinders seem to go for around 30 bucks.
Masters for like 45-50.
They can be cheaper or quite a bit more expensive depending on brand and quaility.
