Question Transmission leaks and overheats

Alright so i have a 93 4runner 4x4 with the A340H Tranny, about 10 Months ago i had it professionally rebuilt, yet i still keep having problems with a leak coming it appears from above the transfer case, not either pan, i didnt know of many other places it can leak from. i have taken it back atleast 6 times since it is under warranty but he has still yet to correct the problem, and i wouldnt mind so much but since it leaks i tend to overheat with longer trips. Has anyone had this problem or anything i should look at?
please help me fix my truck!!

What do you mean by above the t case?
As in above the top of it?
Or on the top of the t case?

You're leaking ATF?
Or is it gear oil?

Cracked case on the trans/t case?
Speedo gear or sensor?
Leaking from between cases?
There isn't a lot up there.

Regardless, if you're leaking enough to cause it to overheat you've got a major leak.
As in puddles on the ground. Or a drip trail.
Does the level noticeably drop during the trip?

If you're only losing small amounts the leak probalby isn't causing the overheating.

Im leaking ATF and it is coming from the top of the Transfer case it looks like, ive been bringing it to the tranny guy who rebuilt everything and he is just resealing the pans i dont think he is very good and i dont know much about trannys and what to check for leaking so im trying to get some ideas where to look to try and fix this. if it has a crack in the case is there a way to fix it ( J B weld or put some seal maker in it if its small?) or do i have to get a whole new case?

it creats a small puddle on the transfer case skid plate and always has a drip waiting to fall when you look at it. and the level does change i wouldnt say significantly but i do need to top it off after a two hour drive or so

Finding the leak SHOULD be relatively easy.
Clean off the surface, let it leak and follow the trail back.
Or have the rebuilder show you.

If it's ATF it's from the trans, not the t case.
Unless he put ATF in the t case.

If it's from a seal/part it will be leaking from that area.
If it's from a crack it will be leaking from bare metal.

It is weird it's leaking so much from the top.
Usually a high up leak won't lose much fluid, unless there's a pressurized passage there.

Make sure it's not leaking from in between the transmission and transfer case. If it is that means the rear seal on the trans is leaking.

Was the trans overheating before the rebuild?
If not it may have been improperly rebuilt [Auto trans rebuilding isn't easy].
Judging by what you've written it's a good possibility.

With the A340H tranny the t case and trans are built together, with atf running through both of them, so there is no gear oil in the tranny or transfer case and thats how it was supposed to be, personally i think its a dumb design,
im going to clean it and look again today and go to another shop and get a second opinion and get the shop that did mine to pay for it, since i did pay a arm a leg to get it rebuilt properly and have a honest job if he cant do that he should pay for it to be done atleast.
and it did overheat before rebuld because it was leaking before rebuild as well

Oh, I didn't know they were a single piece, I'm not super familiar with these older trucks.
Good to know.

If you were overheating before, have you taken a GOOD look at the cooler and lines?
Maybe the cooler is too small for what you're putting the trans through?

I can't see how much you're actually leaking, but a minor leak shouldn't cause overheating.

Is the vent line not on top of these transmissions? sounds to me like its overheating and spitting out the overflow. Do you overfill it? Check the fluid with engine running? all of these could be factors

well i took it to another tranny shop today and he said it looks like the shifter seal is where its leaking from, he is going to replace it for 50 bucks part and labor and if it doesnt fix it, there will be no charge. so hopefully it will work out, ill keep you all posted, thanks for all the info and ideas and things to check!

And no i have never over filled it, and i always check the level after warming up with the engine running
