Smile trannys gone!!!!!!

my tranny on my 87 4runner has finally fried after driving over three thousand miles on bad bearings. i was driving home last night and going about 65 it threw itself out of 5th gear and the only gear i could find after that was 4th lol so now im wondering if buying a junk yard tranny would be better than rebuilding it myself. ive found a tranny at a junk yard for about 450

what tranny is it? that sounds like A LOT!!!

I would hit Craigslist, forum classifieds, etc. You can find one MUCH cheaper than that.

I agree $450 for a junk yard trans sounds kinda high. I wouldn't pay that much even for an R151.

That's odd since these trucks seem kinda popular in Mexico. What part of south Texas? I spent 2 years in Kingsville.

ouch that happened to my 96 ranger 100 miles from home. one minute it was running fine then pulled into a rest area, used the facilities pulled back out ,pulled onto the freeway and lost all gears it only cost 250 bucks for the tow and 55 dollars for a used tranny plus a 200 dollar clutch works fine now.
