Tranny Swap

Well, I found a good (hopefully, won't know til I get it in) used tranny and will be swapping it with the one in my 87 runner soon. It seems like a pretty straight forward job, but thought a ask about a few details that I am unclear on:

  1. 1. I'm getting a new gasket for between the tranny and xfer case. Do folks usually put that in dry, with silicone, grease?
  2. Thought I'd take care of the leaky rear seal on the xfer while I was doing all this. From the factory manual, looks like they bolt a special tool onto the rear flange to take the nut off. Anyone tried an impact wrench? Anything special I should know before I start getting to this seal?
  3. What type of lube is best for these trannies and xfers? I've read that one should avoid GL-5 oil as it is too slick. Also it seems quite a few folks are using synthetics. Is there a consensus on what is the best?

    Thanks

I've been using Redline MT-90 in my transmission for about 4K miles now and it shifts pretty nice
