Is it a car dolly you own or one you are renting? From like uhaul. And what is going on said dolly? How long of a trip?

Also do you have a receiver or are you using the bumper? It might be too tall for the dolly and the ramps might drag on ground. Depending on how it's built.

Towing a 85 4 runner. 100 miles? Bad idea?

Why buy online when you can get it at Wal mart? If you're complaining about online returns. I'm so confused. What are you even asking?

I'm not gonna tell you its a bad idea. Some might. But I've done some........ that probably wasn't good. I pulled a yacht with my 94. I wish i could find the pics. Anyway. ... just go to AutoZone and grab the kit. Boom. Done.

Your truck should already have the control box on it. All you have to do is use a universal 4 pin plug and harness to connect into it. If you're saying you need the actual module, I don't know

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Look under the back of your truck between the spare tire and bumper. You should have the factory trailer light box mounted to the bottom of the bed. All you gotta do is connect your 4 pin wires.

I think that was part of the towing package.

If the vehicle came with a hitch installed it had the light converter box.

Great theory, but my 94 didn't have a hitch. Dunno about the 89.

The hardest part is installing a converter for non-integrated turn signals like on my 4runner. Otherwise many people just tap into their existing light wiring for a trailer connector. Mine had one spliced in using scotch lock taps that resulted in corrosion and problems with the trailer circuits. Cleaned them up with some solder and electrical tape with zip ties and haven't had any issues since.

You bought both those vehicles new??

People remove hitches all the time when selling them.

People are forever mixing parts on these vehicles.

It is a moot point but I always use 7 pin plugs I need them for the brakes.
