tires,gears and lift

i have a 94 et cab yota pickup, 3 inch body lift. 4.56 gears v6 with an automatic trans. it has 31-12.50 thornbirds on it now and i dont like them. but i cant find i tire i like in the 31 size.so i thought about 33. my rims are 15 x 10. so would 33- 12.50 be good with just the body lift. i think the gears would need to be upgraded. im thinking about 33 m/t mtz. or the claws. i would appreciate any addvice. the truck is a d/d and some mud riding. most of the 31 tires are 10.50 would that be to narrow

you might rub with a 33x12.50 on that size rim, whats the backspacing?

As for gears if you go with 31" tires get 4.88 gears
if you go with 33" tires, get 5.29 gears.

33s would be fine I had a 89 xtra cab v6 with 35s on 15x10 wheels and I loved it. Oh I also had 2 inch lift shackles in the rear and turned the torsion bars up to match

from what i understand from researching them a bit, thornbirds only give slight advantage over a good a/t offroad and ride like crap onroad. a set of good m/t such as bfg will give better on and off road manners. the only good thing about them is the price

With a 10" wide rim I think you should go with a 12.5" wide tire.

Doing the suspension lift + say 2" body lift should clear 'em.

With the pick up you might get away with 5.29's and 33's with the auto. With my 4runner I'll be going with 5.71's.

Go with the 33's. If they rub at all it won't be bad. If they do run you can just throw in a bj spacer in the front and an extended shackle in the back and clear them with no trimming.

As for a tire, just make sure your next tire is a radial and you should be fine. My truck rides like a Cadillac with irok radials on it.
