tire carrier from 4runner to pickup?

Will a swing out tire carrier (that mounts to the body) off of a 4 runner mount to a pickup of similar year? I'd like to get the spare out from under the back end up my 86 and put it on a tire carrier if I can so I can use that space for other goodies.

Thank you.

The carrier would basically fit, but the body of the bed is not stiff enough to carry the load of the tire with out a lot of modification. There are several mfgs. offering rear bumpers with a swing away carrier that would probably work better for you.

Great idea getting it out from under the truck. I have seen many gashed spare tires from dragging on rocks, you never know it is bad untill you need it!

Yeah but I just put the MC bumper on it and can't afford to buy a different one.

not including the inside mounts/reinforcement that aviator mentioned, the body lines on a 2nd Gen 4Runner (90+ 90 something) are totally different than the body lines on a 2nd Gen Truck . 1st Gen 4Runners never had a factory swing out carrier.

I bought a used CBI Off Road Tire carrier from a YT member last year to use with the Marlin rear bumper on my '81:

It is nice to have the rear cargo area back...
It flips up and down very easily and with the intergrated high lift jack mount it will make access very easy.
It does stick out a little more than I thought that it might:

tweeked it a little bit:
To this:

Rear View:

Not sure if I totally like how the angle came out, but the welding work was free it is still better than straight up.

now looking at a way to modify the CBI even more to use a rockstomper swing out hinge kit on the Marlin rear bumper

Hey OCDZ, does that set up raddle or swing around?

I need to do something about the spare in my cargo area.

It rattles a little bit, not too bad. From what I remember they are made to each individual truck. This one was originally on a 3rd Gen 4Runner. If I had not gotten it second hand it might have fit a little better.
Email Steve at CBI Offroad. He is a great guy, the fab work is awesome.

i just throw my spare in the bed if im goin wheelin. seems kinda silly (to me at least) to spend money on a spare tire carrier when other important things can be had like skid plates, shocks, lockers, etc etc

Room/space is a premium at times.
