Yall know those two tiny front (2"?) speakers right? Well who's pulled em out and put something bigger/better in there? Pics?

 

In my truck there are 4" fronts. Didn't know they were that small in the 2nd gens.....

There is no possible way to get decent sound out of the two stock sized speakers. Add a sub, I sure want to..

 

Naw, my music aint meant for all that boom boom booming nonsense. But yeah, they're pretty damn small speakers. Thought I remembered reading a thread where someone fit a either a 5x3 or a 6x9 up there in that little speaker space with a little trimming, but I couldn't find nothing by searchin.

Found some sony xplode 5"ers in my garage, and was thinkin about puttin em in there.

 

But these stock speakers in the '84 are more like tweeters than actual speakers lol.

 

Any 4" preaker will fit no cutting. I think someone changed yours out. But I could be wrong. No way a 6x9 fits in that hole.

 

Mine are 4". I replaced the stockers with some pioneers and they're good enough along with some 6x9's in the rear.

 

You got enough astroglide and you can fit anything anywhere. Could fit a cadillac in a dog house with that stuff. Also great for keeping squirrels from climbing up the bird house pole.

Lmao, but seriously, yeah I think the PO must have swapped in some 2" lightning audio speakers in there. Now that it's light imma go see what I caint jerry-rig up in er.

Anyhoo, I got er did. Couldn't fit the 5"ers in there without cutting a bit, so I said screw it and got some cheap 4"ers from wallimart.





They sounded better than the 2" tweeters that were in there, but still wasn't that great. So I ran some line and got the 4-speaker setup now. Spiffy huh? Noticed one of the old sony xplods had a small tear in it, so I put some gray permatex gasket maker over the tear, and it sounds good as new now!



Anyhoo, there's no stock place to put the rear speakers in this truck, but the magnets work mighty fine. And yeah, I couldn't find any connects so I just electric taped the wires to the speakers Go ahead and say it, I don't even care lol.

Eh I might make it look nicer later on. Took me all of 12 minutes including going to walmart and doing the install in the parking lot. Drank WAY too much coffee this morning.

Hours are beer-thirty to beer-thirty. Charge a case an hour.

You know... If me and my friends charged money instead of beer, we'd probably be loaded. This is about half of the beer it took two of us to do my lift over 3 days:

Nice set of MB Quarts, dad just sold his truck, and yanked those out before he sold em, and now doesnt have a need for them, so if I can cram em up front I can have them...

i got some regular aftermarket 4" speakers, and they sound fine...got some cheapos in teh rear, and they sound great...

hey bro, the trick to getting sound (worth hearing) out of speakers, even cheapy ones, is to separate the air in the front from the air in the rear.

what i mean is, take those speakers you have laying behind the seat, and mount them in any type of sealed container that won't flex. any box, made of wood, whatever, will help significantly. kind of like giving your exhaust system some backpressure, y'no? (the air behind the speaker is in the box, separate from the air in front of the speaker, which is all the air outside the box)

you can also try to do the same thing with the fronts if you can get to the space in the dash behind the speaker and try to seal it up a little more, to isolate it from the air in front of the speaker.

 

Do the ghetto shoebox speakerboxes! I had a set of 6.5" Sony Xplod's in matching Converse shoe boxes, looked pretty neat, fit behind my seat too. Ductape the seams if you want.

 

In my 4Runner, it had the stock 4 inchers, but I put in some Polk dB401's along with a Sony HU with Sirius, and my MP3 player.

Key thing is to keep them in those same containers, and use any sort of weather stripping to seal the speaker in. And also poly fill and a very stiff contanier works well.

Debating on component 6.5's or 5.25's in the rear. I put my money on the 6.5's sounding way better though.
