timing chain alignment help!
I have a 22re and i just rebuilt the head and now im putting everything back on. for the timing chain, i have the 2 bright links lined up with the dot on the cam sprocket in the middle, and the 1 bright link is lined up tdc on the crank sprocket mark. are the marks supposed to line up in the exact same spot if the motor is turned twice?
i just want to be sure that i did the timing chain correctly. Also, if i turned the crank counter clockwise, will the chain jump a tooth? any help is appreciated. thanks.

No, the links will not line back up after only two revolutions of the crank.
Think about how many teeth are on the crank sprocket and how many links are on the chain.

How would they not? The crank turns 2:1 to the cam, so after two turns, it should be right back where he started.
*edit* nvm, i read that wrong lol.
The crank and cam would both be back to where they started, but Abe is right, the links would not be back where they started, since there are more links than teeth on the gears

if the dots and links lined up, then you should be good. we're just making small-talk.
when you go to put the distributor in, put the rotor pointing at 12-1 o'clock and slide it in. the rotor should spin counter-clockwise and end up at approximately 10 o'clock. snug the distributor bolt down with the adjustment set to about the middle and you should be good to fire it up... after putting everything back together that is.

abec, i was looking at another post that you were responding on and i had a question on it. i set the marks correctly, and with the cam sprocket lined up, the crankshaft pully is a little off like the one in the post. do i rotate the crank around twice so the cam dowel is lined up and the crank pulley is a 0, then put the dizzy in? i kinda got confused on that part.
heres the link to the post.....

As for getting everything lined up and ready to go, look at the pictures in this post:https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116.../#post50987473
That's what you want everything to look like when you get done.
Because the distributor will rotate somewhat conunterclockwise when you stab it, what you do is line up the crank and the camshaft as in the pics and then position the rotor at 12 o'clock -- when you stab it, it rotates, and there you are, happy, happy, happy.

You can also achieve the same thing by verifying the rotor is pointing to one. But thats only if you can't tell time like me
No problem, that will be $75 please
