truck ran fine before parked. the very next morning no start. the 4 days before this happened it acted sluggish like the battery was low. im not sure what happened. every other pulley and belt spin. any ideas? thanks.

 

Is there any tension on the belt? The belt won't come off the crankshaft sprocket, even if you remove the tensioner, so it sure looks like you've broken every tooth off the belt where you're spinning the sprocket on it. The 3vze is a non-interference engine, so you can safely turn the cam sprockets even "out of time" with the crank. If they turn freely until some teeth get to the crank sprocket, that will tell you why they don't turn now. Or, one or both won't turn at all; you somehow jammed a cam, and while cranking the starter just managed to break the teeth off the belt.

By the way, it looks like you left the water outlet connected. How did you get the upper timing cover off?

 

To me it looks like either you broke the keyway or it just slipped out of the crank, or just like scope103 said you ate (broke) all the groves off the belt at the crank. Pull your harmonic balancer off then the cover and see whats going on in there. While you got the belt off also check if the R/H and L/H cam sprockets rotate.

 

Sounds easy when Qbert says it.

The crankbolt has a spec torque of 181 ft-lbs. And you're going to need a shop built tool to hold the crank against the 200+ ft-lbs it's going to take to get that bolt out. (I like this tool, of course: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...h-3vze-137934/) Some might suggest a rather "exciting" method of removing that bolt by using the starter, but you're still going to need the tool to reinstall the bolt, so you're not saving anything that way.

But, in the end, no matter how you find out what went wrong, removing that crank bolt is in your future.

 

Actually a good impact wrench got mine off on my rebuild, putting it back on to torque spec was a whole different story.

With a manual transmission I've been able to break the crank bolt loose and torqued down again by putting it in gear with the e-brake on. Most posts on this recommended using a higher gear, but as long as the truck won't move you can use any gear.

 

Thats sounds horrible. Agree on the pulling the pulley. Ive always been able to remove crank pulleys with a impact or even a long breaker bar.

 

How in the heck is running?

 

It cant be running. Must just be the starter turning it over.

Us chain wrench around the crank pulley with a long brake bar or ratchet works great.
