Sorry for taking so long guys. I'm dropping a locker in this weekend and the 4.56's wil be in next week, I'm tired of looking at my Aussie and thirds sitting in the garage. I'm scheduled to go to Navajo Lake over the last weekend in July to test out the gear and my friends jeep as well as teach him and his wife how to fish.

Laters.

Hey, make sure you use very heavy gear oil with the Aussie, otherwise it's annoying. With the summer heat, the Aussie can really annoy me at times. It acts up more than it did in the winter.

Try 80W140. 80W90 was fine in the winter.

Annoying how? The noise? I was actually planning on Synthetic gear oil in there, bad idea?

With the light oil, the locker jerks badly around corners, even with the clutch in, not to mention its noisy. With heavy stuff (like 80W140), the truck just glides around corners smoothly as if you had an open diff.

I'm surprised this isn't emphasized in the instructions.

Amsoil sells a 85W140 synthetic, Redline sells a 80W140.

I would try Redline Heavy Shockproof then - friction of a 75W90 with the shock protection of a 75W250

No! That would be a logical option, BUT it turns out that definitely not the answer. I have Redline Heavy Shock proof now, and its terrible with an auto locker like an Aussie. Cheap 80W90 dino oil was significantly better.

Hmm ... probably cushions too well and keeps the teeth from seating properly ... it IS some THICK stuff!

I think it has more to with the fact its viscosity is 75W90 and it moves out of the way between the "coupler" and "driver" to quickly. As a result, the locker has time to re-engage during a turn. That's my best guess.

I will be saving the Shockproof for my front diff.

So whatever happened? I ran across this thread while searching and I'm thinking of taking a similar upgrade path to Junkers88.

This was probably one of my favorite Yotatech threads ever.

Holy old threads Batman!

Well teh build I wanted to do didn't go exactly in the direction I wanted. I have been wheeling with the Jeep buddy several times and so far we're pretty evenly matched. Of course the truck that was in the original post has been sold and I'm in the middle of a 4runner build so I guess I'll need to go wheeling against the Jeep in my 1gen runner.
