Tech help

I am needing some technical advice from someone. I have a 92 Toyota 4Runner with the V6. Cranks and runs beautifully in park and neutral at both cold temp and at operating temp. Will shift fine until it gets to operating temp., then kills the motor. Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

I think it does. I just put new shift solenoids and the torque converter solenoid in it today. It does perfect until it gets operating temp.

Thats what I'm saying.

I don't think that the converter will go into lock-up until operating temp is reached, so you have relatively normal function until then.

After lock-up it may not unlock correctly hence: engine stalls.

The fact that this prob appeared after tranny solenoid work may be significant.

It was worse before I put the solenoids in it. Before I put them in, it would go dead putting it in reverse and drive.

Still sounds like converter lock-up issue to me.

It got better after the solenoid change. Do you think it might continue to improve?

All you can do is wait and see.

How many miles on the tranny??

Know any service or repair history on it?

It has around 180000 miles on it. Don't know the history on it other than a filter and fluid change not long before I got it.

It does good as long as you don't touch the brake pedal. Also has a throttle position sensor trouble code on it now.
