Nuts holding either side of tailgate are supposed to be welded to body? Both mine are not welded any longer. I’m just guessing they should be welded on. Anyone know for sure. Fixing my tailgate and it’s now removed.

Tailgate been rattling for some time so decided to fix the hinge and explore the two small holes in tailgate which leads to this

 

Now that the tailgate is fixed it was time for tailgate handle to break. Rockauto got them on clearance for $5.47each!!! Ive considered making one from steel,,ridiculous having plastic latch handles.
