Tail light fuse

I know there are threads on this but i’m still confused. 1989 Pickup 22re single cab short bed.
So my tail lights worked fine for a few days after i got the truck running then the fuse popped. Replaced fuse and worked fine for a few hours. Blew it again but this time I went to replace it WITH LIGHTS OFF and it instantly blew. Wiring is fine and I cleaned the hell out of the sockets so I know that’s not an issue. Could it be the switch on the steering wheel? Or am I overthinking this?
Any help is much appreciated -Dalton

New switch did nothing. Everything is the same so i guess time to just pull the interior and replace all the wiring for the tail lights.

Another update. It only blows fuses with a bulb in the socket.

Sounds like a socket issue...

That’s exactly what it was one of the springs broke after 33 years. Was shorting out causing the fuse to blow. I appreciate it!

Glad you found it. And thank you for reporting back how you fixed it.
