Tachometer and Odometer

1988 4Runner 3.0 Automatic
Tachometer and Odometer Just Quit Working the Other Day. Anybody have any ideas? I was Thinking a Fuse of Some Kind. But, Really Doubt it Would be that Easy for Somebody to Pull a Fuse and Disable the Odometer.

Thanks in Advance

Dax

The odometer is mechanical. It's run off the speedometer cable. Gear driven.
You have to open up the instrument case & remove the speedometer to have a look.

Tach is electrical. there is a trouble shooting procedure in the FSM, but honestly I don't know much about what the input signal should look like.. Output should come from the ignitor.
Does your AC still work at low RPM? If so, your ignitor is probably producing signal and you've got a jacked up tach (or connection)
If you need a spare tach only, I think I have one.

Speedometer still works?

I know in my 3rd gen it takes one fuse to kill the tach and speedo, not sure it would kill the ODO though.

My 87' 4runner speedo odometer and trip stopped working on my way to work. Every other gauge on the dash works. So what do I need to do???

When I got my 83 pickup it had a aftermarket tachometer but it wasn't working anymore so I removed it. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket one I could buy and install fairly easy?

I have a similar issue. The speedo and tach work, but the odometer quit.

If I undertand the earlier post right, are they saying the speed and odometer are run on the same cable? What would make one work and not the other if thats the case?? Mines a 93 instead so maybe its different?
