tach needle broken need help

This is just goofy.
Went to the car wash and engine wouldn't start.
Would run for a second and tach would go to about 10,000 rpm (not the engine)
Now tach needle is either broken or stuck.

How hard is it to remove instrument shield or whatever it's called?
thanks

LOL - million to one odds - it's stuck down at the bottom! (Sorry, don't mean to laugh...)
Pounding on it with the palm of your hand might free it, otherwise you'll have to pull the cluster.
If it's like all the other dashes I've had apart, it's pretty simple but takes some time, you have a lot of stuff to remove first. Once you get the cluster out you can take off the plastic front. Start at the bottom, by the park brake lever, and work up, piece by piece.

Thanks for the info and the links.
I pounded on it a bit and the needle returned to 0 but now the tach doesn't work.
Looks like I'll have to wait till Spring. I'll put an aftermarket tach on for now.

thanks again.

I have an extra laying around that you can have real cheap. How bout 20 bucks shipped. I'm in Ottawa at the moment so it'll be coming from here.

Needle was made to pull off and push back on. Crystal mask assembly unclips after removing cluster.

Wow - you only have 120K on your runner, that thing must be cherry. I have 385K on mine. Good to see more canadians. Have you checked you tach pick up lead under the hood. Maybe washing the truck broke it loose

Unfortunately it's the needle or tach itself. I wish the truck was cherry, it runs well but grew up in Ontario so it's pretty rusty plus it's had 2 major wrecks.
