Getting a 1st-gen soon
Hey all, i'm gonna be getting my own 1st gen on my birthday next year, and wanted to tell you what i'll be doing to it. I'm going to try and find a 86-89 4runner with the 22re with a manual tranny, for under $2000. Heres a list of the things I want to do with a $5000 CDN budget.
1. 7M-GTE Supra swap (Using donor car)
2. 1'' Diff drop or 2'' bodylift (to clear the oil-pan)
3. Some minor bodywork (if the truck is in semi-crappy condition)
4. Cheapo rock-crawler wheels, and tires (32''-33'')
5. Gears (haven't figured out what the stock axle ratio is yet)
So far this is my list, i'm currently driving my fathers 3rd-gen, so I hope it will "Probably" match up to it. I've read and did lots of research on YT and google to find the best info on how I can manage a supra swap myself. I "think" this project will cost me more than my budget, but hey, at least i'm gonna have lots of fun building my first truck project.
Thanks

sounds like you're biting off more than you can chew here... how do you know you won't like it the way it is?
not to mention the supra swap with a turbo is a pretty challenging even for an experienced mechanic...

I won't be going off-roading or anything, just normal street driving. If the 7M-GTE doesn't work out, i'll probably go for a 7M-GE or 5M-GE swap, and then proceed from there.
Plain stock with different wheels and tires is what i'm aiming for. I won't be going serious until I get more cash.
