Tach Install (1989 Pickup 4x4, 22R/e)
#23
Ok re the clock wires. An old post (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...pickup-118009/) has the full clock wire listings. The only remaining issue I got is that on my truck (92 Xcab 3.0) it doesn't seem very obvious at all where on the coil the negative actually is (its all these plug in modules)?

Tach hook up pics
Finally...
...below is pic of hook up to coil. Very simple -- just 2 wires, pos and neg; clip into the negative. Ignore the ignitor attached to coil. Otherwise I did as described in thread -- wires hooked up to clock lines, except for power. There was not enough in clock line, and I have a Painless Wiring fuse block which I tapped into:

I use to have the same tach, just mounted on the pillar... now I think I've gone a bit overboard
no the shift light isn't set at 9 1/4 grand, I was just playing with the tach, lol

anyway, its a direct swap, nothing fancy about it. Just take out the old cluster, swap in the SR5, run a wire from the tach to the test plug. You're set.

I bought the sending unit at the local parts house. You have a choice of buying for a gauge or a light. Just tell them you want the gauge.
I didn't have to do anything to hook up the FACTORY SR5 instrument cluster. It was literally plug it in to the same connector as the non-SR5 cluster and it worked. Factory wiring was already there to do what it needed to do.

My tach sr5 swap is not going so well. Can I run a wire from the coil as pictured to the back of the cluster to verify the tach is good? Please advise.
Forgot - I have a 92 22RE.
