Hey everybody;

Well after wrestling with replacing my cv joint boots on my front driveaxle, I managed to break one of my end links. I wasn't able to really find out much info here searching, other than learning that they're hard to find, and about disconnects which I didn't know anything about. I need to do something here asap, as I don't feel compfortable driving it without one. I'd really rather not spend the stealership prices, especially since my other is probably just as rusted. So aftermarket wise, the only thing I could find was the energy suspension part number 8.5106, which says sway bar bushing set. I'm not sure if this includes the actual links, as it's not just a typical straight bolt setup. I took the part number to autozone and they couldn't find them in their catalog or system, no surprise. I could only find them on SR for 25 bucks or so. Oh, I do sometimes do take it offroad, mainly during hunting seasons, so I guess I'm open to disconnects if that's a better route that I should take. I'd like to order something here tonight or tomorrow so I can get this thing road worthy again. I got a backup vehicle but it's got summer tires on it and snow's a com'n. Any help here greatly appreciated.

 

Anybody fill some light in. Really need to order something asap.

OK sorry about the lack of info. 93 4runner. I guess I'm kind of an idiot about this stuff. I do have 1.5 inch ball joint spacers on it, so I guess I ideally need non-stock length anyways. I still have one side connected, and the bar is angled down, so I need longer ones as expected with the spacers. It looks like the stock length are 4.5 or so, and I measured needing about 5 inch length. Does this sound right? Are custom disconnects my only option now? Thanks for the link for links....that's funny. Now I'm just confused about what I should do. 4crawlers disconnects look nice, so if I have to go this route, I think I'll opt for them. Now I'm even more confused than before....

 

i havent ran a sway bar for a year, and its fine. i also have BJ spacers. be prepaired to get used to changing CVs if you dont have Man. locking hubs and/or a diff drop. let me dig around i might have my end i could sell you.


*edit* yep i have my stock ones sitting my my bucket of parts. let me know if you want them. say 20 bucks plus shipping for both?

 

One option is to lower the sway bar frame brackets instead of lengthening the stock end links:

I got the sway bar drop from Roger and it works good. But I just took my swaybar off a few weeks ago and I can't even tell it's gone, just take it off.

I'll sell you my endlinks for $15 if you want lol.

 

trying to under cut me huh?! lol just kidding.

i would just take out the sway bar.

 

I thought if you take it off you'll have issues with inspection/licensing. Anybody run into issues with no swaybar?

 

Not all states/provinces have inspections, BTW.

I have not had sway bars on my '85 since I had the steering upgraded in 1998. It leans a little more in the turns, but you get used to it. Some folks don't mind the ride/handling w/o sway bars and others can't stand it.
