stupid arguement, "Is a Detroit Soft Locker" really a locker?

As the title says. Got into a discussion with a Jeep buddy and he insists that the only "real" lockers out there are either ARB's (like he has in his Rubicon) or a "full" Detroit locker. I'm in the midst of buying a Detroit Soft Locker for 150$ but now I'm worried that it may not be what I need.

I'm trying to buy it since it's cheaper than a new Aussie but I don't want to end up with an LSD. I got on Eatons site and all the tag lines for the lockers are pretty much the same.

So is the Soft Locker an actual locker? If you run one do you like it?

Yes I searched, go ahead and type in "detroit" or "locker" and see how many hits you get.

Thanks bunches!!!!

$150 seems like a good price. However, it's my understanding that the Detroit will require professional setup, unlike the Aussie. If that's true, then it might be cheaper to do the Aussie if you can install it yourself.

If it locks the left and right together, it's a locker, if it doesn't lock the two sides to a 1:1 ratio and allows one side to turn at a different speed than the other it's an LSD/torque-sensing/torque-distributing differential.

If you argue/discuss with an idiot they will win everytime due to experience.

IIRC you can actually remove bits from a Soft Locker and turn it into a "hard locker". So yeah, it fully locks, just it does a better job of unlocking than the old old Detroit. I bet it works even better than an Aussie.

$150 is a wicked price. Normally, there around $500 new I think, so that's really a steal. Are you sure it works? I'm make sure you pick it up from the guy's house so that if it doesn't work you could go heckle him.
