Stumbling since flood

El Paso got about 7 to 15 inches of rain a couple weeks ago and I had to cross a lot of flooded areas. Nothing real bad...up to the doors with my OME lift. And I always cross slow since the intake is behind the front headlight.

Anyway, since then the 3.0 has been stumbling really bad when cold and it improves when up to temp. Checked the distributor and all seemed dry. Even let it dry with the cap off over night. Any ideas what got wet?

not sure about your 3.0...I would change the diff fluid soon (real soon if you have not routed your breathers high)

When I got mine stuck really bad I had trouble with the 3.0 dieing on me when it heated up. I'm guessing water in my gas or something but I changed my oil several times and ran a few tanks of premium and it cleared up.

I second this. Currently my 3.slow is out of commission due to H20. As soon as I get it where it can turn over, I'm chaning out the front and read diff oil, cuz I know there is water in there.

Obviously something got wet. I'd make a really good check of all the lower electrical connections that were submerged. FYI: the injectors run off 12v; that could be a good place to start. Check the connection for the Cold Start Injector.

Thanks guys. I did put a couple bottles of HEET in the tank over the weekend. And when I pulled the distributor cap the center carbon post was broken, so I replaced the cap and rotor. Sounds like I'm gonna be pulling connectors over the weekend. I thought most of the connections in the engine compartment would have dried out in a couple of weeks with daily half-hour commutes, but evidently not.

All of this is making a 1KZ-T with good-old mechanical injection sound real good.

it may be a good idea to drain and refill the gas tank...maybe some worked its way in there?

That's what HEET is for. It's either Isopropyl or Ethyl alcohol, which will mix with both water and gasoline, and allow the water to mix with the gasoline. This allows the water to pass on through fuel filters and be passed through the combustion chamber.
