Stock cams with a bored over 3vz?

My truck blew its HG last night and one of my buddys has a 3vze block and pistons that are bored 50 over. Im going to do a full rebuild on either block, stock or bored block.

So i was wondering. Can I use the stock cams for this or do I have to get some better cams?

You can use stock cams, but you could get more power using aftermarket ones.

Crower Equipment Mfg. in San Diego, CA they don't list 3vze cams on their web site but you can call and have a custom regrind done for $200 i recommend the 272 degree durration. i have 264's and probably could have got more out of the 272's. they cut my base circles a little to small so i had to order all new shims from toyota for $100.

^^^

What he said but remember anything bored over 40 is considered iffy, you get to .50 and cylinder walls are getting thin and our hot running engines run a little hotter due to the lack of heat dissipation.

Just something to consider - if you hven't done .40 yet, why jump all the way to .50?

Oh, i forgot about that, should i just use my stock block and get it bored 30 over? You think that would be the best choice?

My friend bought a complete engine that was 50 over and he never used it so he said I could use it.

run the .50 over while you rebuild your motor to .30 over that way if the .50 over blows up you have a brand new motor ready to go.

Thats a good idea olharleyman. I still have to rebuild both blocks but i just might do that. I will get the 50 over block and pistons for free too. I just need to pay for all the new parts, bearings, machine shop work etc...

DOA racing has cams for the 3vz, ive never heard of em before tho. i dont know what happened to weasy2k.

Remember 50 over on this is in mm not inches so 50 over when it is stamped on the piston is really .20 over in inches.

i wouldn't mind having a set of cams to wake up the 3vz..how much were yours Tracey????

i dont want a CRAZY camshaft..but a mild one would be nice..something i can DEFINITELY feel though lol..

maybe give it a small Lope at idle..barely noticeable..but definitely there lol

camo, i got mine from crower for $200. regrinds always make the base circle smaller tho so you need new shims from toyota which is $100. i have 264's and wish i would have gotten 272's. i notice the powerband kick up at 3k rpm more than it used to.

Tracey,
Hey whenever you get the cams redone to 272 or even 264 do you have to get the heads done too? i called Delta cams and the guy told me that i had to getthe heads done if i got the cams regrinded to 260 degree duration...
