Hey guys. My 87 4runner has a black rectangular piece in the dash to the left of the steering column. It has what looks to be a bunch of tiny holes like a speaker is in there. It also has the word "security" written on it as well as a small red button. I want to know if its a stock alarm system for my 4runner? Any thoughts on how to find out or if they came with stock alarms back then?

 

more than likely it is aftermarket, dont think the late 80's models came with factory alarms.

I have a 94 4runner and I have the same security thing, I can't find anything in the Toyota manual or the chiltons manual. I bought my 4runner about 5 months ago and put a new motor in it and just started to drive it recently. I just noticed the security system thing over the weekend but can't figure out how it works. I am sure that its stock, as it says security at the top, theres a little speaker looking thing and a light that has never come on, then it says toyota at the bottom. Anybody know how it Works??????

 

my dads 88 4runner has the same thing and my 91 toyota xtra cab has one two i know theirs a switch under the drivers dash and that thiers a speaker under the hood looks like a pa system and am as lost as you wander if you can make these things work made it go off once when messing with battery for like 5 seconds then it went back off . if it sill works would like to turn it on cant hurt im the 4th owner someone on this forum had to have thier truck new and now how it works
