This is just a possibility as to why you are getting a lean mixture. I was just explaining the PAIR system.
Since you live in the valley, I wouldnt worry too much about it. I don't know that if the PAIR was not working that it would affect the O2 sensor reading. I was just speculating. I would check the AFM and O2 sensor like previously stated. the 22r still has the PAIR and EGR and all that stuff, it may just be set up a little differently. Personally, I think its a good idea to keep that stuff on because the engine was designed to run with it.

They are not interchangeable. Just compare them. Look on 4crawler.com for testing procedures.

This is the FSM procedure for testing the airflow meter on the 3vze....

http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...92volumeai.pdf

If you don't find any problem there, try running a test this way....

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...esting-146662/

You'll need an ohm meter if you don't have one, though. Testing with one for this part is rather simple and easy. Just connect the pos and neg probes to the designated terminals on the AFM and record what the meter reads. Then, compare to manual specs. Of course, there won't be specs in the manual for the second procedure in the thread. But, that is explained.

You're bound to have problems on an older vehicle whether it's a 22re or a 3vze. The parts, particularly the electronics, wear out. I've worked just as much on my 22re as my 3vze. Compared to other vehicle manufacturers I've had, though, I'm not complaining. 200k better than 50k or 100k.

Do you have an Auto Zone in your neck of the woods?
