Frame repair

Well I pulled the bed on my new 91 pickup to fix the frame. I have to cut out some rot right behind the drivers side cab. Ill post some pictures tonight. I have alot of grinding and welding to do. Let me know what you guys think.

Frame Pictures

Here are a couple of pictures. When I get home from work I can post more from photobucket. Basically there is a bad part behind the cab that I cut out and ground down all the rust and now im fabbing up a new patch piece.

Its crazy how these frames rust when the bodys are good. And the frame has no rot from the cab up. Weird. Let me know what you guys think

Yeah Im trying to get rid of all the rot and then POR15 it all. Do you think that POR15 is better is Eastwood. Let me know,

Use a small hole saw and drill holes at the bottom of the frame so dirt and water can escape.

Yeah I was going to ask about that. I also heard of some guys filling their frames with expanding foam. But I think that I like the hole in the bottom better than a mess of foam in the frame. I just can't wait to get it back together and on the road. I haven't even got plates for it yet. I have been to busy getting it ready for the road. Thanks for the advice

I use mud to seal my frame

Oh man I hate mud. Thats what killed the 90 4x4 I have as a parts truck. It destroys everything.

dont no .. I have never used the eastwood stuff . but I have used the POR a few times now ..

POR takes alot of prep work to get ready , but as long as you do it , and do it right , you should have no problems .

i'm also not sure on the frame holes on your year , but the 84-88 have small holes all ready there . 1/4" holes .

Well I got the Patch Panels welded up today and Im going to start prepping the frame for the rust encapsulator tomorrow. Check out the pics.

Well The bed is going on tomorrow. Check out the pics.


Frame Done


Frame 2


New Fuel Pump and sending unit. (while it was out)


Bed Cleaned up and coated


Finished frame with Eastwood Rust encapsulator


Cab Corner fixed. Cut out bad welded in new metal and started the body work


Cab Corner Finished


Frame from back. Check out the crazy 1" shackles that I got for free. I welded them onto the support that I fit into the back of the frame for added support and rigidity.


Homemade Bed Bolts with washers.


Bed is going on tomorrow. I will post the rest of the pics.

Let me know what you guys think .

wolf steel has cab corners that you can order, but really, just sheet metal will work, cut to fit. however, Toyota and their sandwiched sheet metal, i swear. I has wholes in my cab corner areas and you could see into the cab, but the problem was that there is about for pieces of sheet metal in between the cab mount on the cab and the floor, so then it gets exposed and crap gets in between then and hell breaks loose. I got really motivated and took off all the layers down to the mount. (its like a 12 gauge piece of steel) and then i just welded the cab to the mounts and all is well, no more corrosion for no reason. Its a crap ton of work though, and there are sandwhiched spot welds also... fun times. Lastly, your frame is sexy, good work.
