Steering relay rod recall question
#21
i had a recall notice for my old 86 when i got it registered sure enough 2 weeks later a notice came in the mail, but i thought the whole ordeal was because they used the same parts in the pickup as they did in the t100, wich is a larger truck so more stress??

It seems that only US or to put it other way, all but European models are eligible for that recall.
I have a '95 1KZT runner, currently main toyota is investigating the probability of the replacement.
I took a picture of my relay rod and it seems it's the thinner one.
Heres's the comparison found online

both mine

I would do your homework.. That recall caused an absolute nightmare for many of us. You must not have searched very hard because there were numerous threads on it while it was going on like TWO years ago. Not sure why you just got your notice. Lots of people including me had their trucks held hostage until they spent a ton of money for other front end parts. Those "free" parts cost me over a grand to get my truck back.

Naw man, How am I supposed to drive a truck with no radiator to the toyota dealer..?
hmm, I was thinking about hacking the relay rod and then blame them for not notifing me quickly enough, I had the truck for A WHOLE YEAR !!
and thats what made me wreck.
But alas its done and been over fore 4 months

I've a 91 subject to the recall, and have had it in the family for about 10 years and haven't received any notice....?
Well, at least I don't have pitot tubes which can cause my autopilot to receive incorrect speed readings and plummet my truck into the ocean.

Problems after Steering Relay Rod recall work done, pitman arm striking tie rod
I got a question for anyone that had the steering rod relay recall work done. Has anyone had the problem of the castle nut on the pitman arm striking the left tie rod, especially when off road and the left tire is pushed up, and I think with my runner, with the steering turned slightly to the right. My left tie rod and the pitman arm have pretty bad wear where they contact, and after the last off road trip, the tie rod is bent. I don't know if it is related, but on the same outing we broke the shaft on the steering idler arm, which I only replaced last year due to being worn. (My brother-in-law came to the rescue with a turn buckle & shackles to replace the steering idler, and a U-bolt/rock/gorilla tape to stabilize the relay rod. It worked enough to get us back to the highway and to the next town which was Waiohinu in Kau. He's terrific!!) Anyway. . . .
My front suspension is pretty much stock, with only aftermarket torque arms & shocks, with the arms cranked up a little. This '90 has 204,000 miles right now.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have searched, and haven't come up with any hits. I studied my steering setup, and everything seems to be in order. Also, two years ago I replaced the steering box for leaking power steering fluid. Anyone have any suggestions?
