Steering relay rod recall question

I search the forums but could not get a answer to this question.

I got the recall notice today for my 1990 toyota truck 4x4 with manual steering.
I herd the recall was only for trucks/4runners with power steering.

My question is. Is my truck part of the recall? Remember I did get the notice.

Thanks again guys!

Uhhhh..

Do you think if your truck didnt need the recall you would have gotten the notice..?

Take it to your local dealer...

True. But I also herd that only trucks with power steering needed the recall work done.

The rod they install is a good bit thicker and stronger than the original rod. And like sean said, it's free parts and a free alignment. Take it in.....

Is it truly free though? Or will they be like "well, before we can replace that we need to replace these tie rods, and these johnson rods." ???

I havent taken mine in yet because I dont have the money for surprise costs.

Well, I'd make for sure your front end is tight before taking it. The alignment is toe only, not camber/caster. I had replaced my idler and pitman arms before taking mine in and put my pitman on a tooth off, causing my steering wheel to be crooked. They griped about it, saying they couldn't work on non-Toyota parts, but finally conceded and popped it off to straighten the steering wheel before aligning my front. I left without paying a penny. I've still got to get a proper alignment, but it's better than it was before I went in....

Mine is all stock, so I don't think I have to worry then. Plus, my dealer here is pretty good with customer service.

I'll have to make an appointment next tuesday and get it fixed within the month then.

Just make sure and tell your service advisor ahead of time that you can't pay for any surprise costs, so he/she can proceed accordingly.

When I had mine done about 6 months ago they removed the front "skid plate" but didn't put it back on because of rusty bolts. They would put it back on for $200 so I said no to that. They also told me I needed a new idler arm/pitman arm and all that since I also have the worn bushings but they wanted $200 for that as well so I declined. The skid plate I can put back on myself and there is a thread on here showing how to replace the bushings in the arm for a few dollars.

I would do your homework.. That recall caused an absolute nightmare for many of us. You must not have searched very hard because there were numerous threads on it while it was going on like TWO years ago. Not sure why you just got your notice. Lots of people including me had their trucks held hostage until they spent a ton of money for other front end parts. Those "free" parts cost me over a grand to get my truck back.

i just got my second recall notice last week. got the first one last summer and ignored it after reading about some of you guys' troubles with the stealerships and how they want to gaff you for pitman arm, idler arm, tie rods, wheel bearings, etc. i think i'm gonna take it in after i repack my bearings since i know that's the only thing janky in my front end - just try and get money out of me toyota stealer, ha!

i think toyota is hurting right now like every other auto maker and is sending out these notices again in the hopes to get some sucker to pay for all the other parts they want to "fix" for you.

I'm quite fresh 4runner owner so just today I bumped into the relay rod story and am wondering if it is true, that only up to 1993 4runers are affected by this possible fault.

Have a '95 runner, but no data indicating, it has faulty rod.

Any 95 owners having been noticed on this?

My dealer never tried to do anything else to my truck. They told me the idler was worn and my tie rods were seized.

I also never got a notice, I called them up and asked if my truck was eligable... Also took them 5 hours. I can do that in 30 easy in my driveway.
