So the last two times I have started my truck (last night to go home and this morning to go to work) I have started the truck and as soon as the truck is started there is an immediate clunk and the engine dies. The clunk seems to happen as the starter turns off and the engine takes over. Both times when I started it for the 2nd time the truck had no problem starting and ran great.

Any ideas?

 

sounds like the bendix on the starter may be staying engaged too long. might need to be disassembled and cleaned and lubed.
