Starter problems

Put a new starter on a 89' 4wd and it worked great. When I put it on I noticed the battery hold down was missing the threaded rod and moved freeely. My son drove it in the pasture, hit a bump, and the hold down hit the positve terminal on the battery. Now it won't crank, can hear starter turning but nada. Took starter off and tested and its good. Thinking he may have "welded" battery plates together but don't know. Any ideas?

Thanks

All fuses look good, trying to see if battery will take a charge now.

When you say you hear the starter turning but it won't crank do you mean the starter is turning but not engaging the fly wheel or the starter is engaging the fly wheel, the engine is turning but won't fire up?

The starter is spinning but not making contact with the flywheel. Push starts fine.

Did the stater drive move forward when you tested the starter? If it doesn't move when the starter spins it isn't engaging the flywheel.

Got home last night and straight wired the starter from the ignition wire on the starter to pos battery and she turned over. Disconnected and tried the key and it started??? Started it 15+ times and never missed a beat. Don't know if it freed the solinoid up or chip in flywheel (none observed when took starter off) but it works.......for now.

Thanks for the replies.

When I start my 94 pick up it screams and then goes away. I thought it was the water pump, but replaced that and it stills does it. My friend told me that it could be the starter solenoid...is that the problem?

You should start your own thread....

I'm guessing it's one of your timing belt (3vze?) pulleys going bad.
