Starter Problem

Before I replaced starter on my 92 5 speed v6 4 runner I would have to click the key several times before the starter motor turned. As it was getting rapidly worse I decided to replace the starter.

Now that I've replaced the starter I can't get the starter motor to turn at all. When I turn the key I can hear a click which I believe is the solenoid, so I'd then expect the motor to engage. I've seen some discussion about the clutch switch but if that were the problem then I wouldn't expect the solenoid to work.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

I'll be able to tell you tomorrow morning. Same scenario: Sporatic starting, Sometimes it fires right up, other times it takes a few turns and then she goes. Putting the new one in tomorrow.

May not be the starter - see the info at the bottom of this page:

Nice. Mine went in today no problem, maybe an hours top. I spent more time washing up then installing it I think.
