On my 95 4runner 3vze i spun three bearings a while back, replaced them, now she runs perfect.

However, its the getting it running thing that's the issue. Sometimes it starts up perfect. Sometimes it cranks, then dies like it ran out of power. Sometimes it just does the "click" like the battery's dead. Today I just went to head to the gf's pad and nothing. Click click click click. No cranking, no turning over. Just CLICK.

All accessories in the car work. Battery's good. Alternator's good.

WTF. Ideas?

 

Believe it or not, I just finished a head job on my 95 3vze. I was having intermit starting issues. I had not been in or around the starter so I didnt even think about it. Long, long story.. but I didnt start with the easyiest thing. 2 days later, I wiggled under my truck, put a an endwrench on the starter terminal, turned in no more than 1/4 turn, and havnt had a problme since... , or should I say with starting anyway, plenty of others.

 

I'm only guessing here, but maybe the 3.0 starters are plagued with bad internal contacts like the 22re starters are?

my replacement is agrivating me... not starting after getting hot...

 

Intermittent no-starts are often the result of bad contacts, but are also frequently bad connections at the battery. Clean the posts and clamps, tighten them down tight, and check your grounds. Check the connectors at the starter, as well.

 

why would anyone replace 3 of 4 (considering mains) or 3 of 6 (considering rods) bearings... then complain that it doesn't spin over properly?

might as well rebuild 1/2 the engine.

 

At what point is he complaining that it isn't spinning over properly because of the bearings? He replaced them, it runs perfectly, it just won't start all the time.

well having my share of electrical issues a bad contact will cause loss of sleep and major fustration #1 keep you battery terminals spotless all of the time this includes your ground cable ive found the di electrical grease from nappa works great on /over any connections if you get the click click start with the batt terminals wire brush then apply the electric grease then move to the next terminal i got a 91 and i took two days to clean all those corroded connectors the starters are usually pretty dependent its the cables supplying the power to them is the issue ...

how can one replace a few bearings in order to get the thing to crank and start "some times" without considering the bearings which have not as of yet been replaced are part of the problem?

I suggest you read the OP and come to your own conclusion as to why it wouldn't start, but after replacing a few bearings it would start... but not all the time... and why the OP hasn't replied to anything in the thread since starting it?
