my buddy just bought a 90 4runner 22re and 5speed, and the speedo and odometer dont work. What are the usual problems and places to look and try to fix it

 

if im not mistaken thats a first gen runner? should have a mechanical spedo, you can try to lubricate it but if its not working at all ide look into a replacement spedo, should be the cable runing to the tailshaft of the transfercase i believe? its a 4x4 right?

 

ya its 4x4. Is it a pain to replace the speedo?

 

naw just gotta take apart the top half of the dash remove the cluster and the spedo cable is apparent its big and has a white hood on it, just have to look and follow where it goes around the truck and feed the new one through, there might be some tips but i havent done one...
