speed sensor removal (rear diff)
Trying to remove the speed sensor from the rear differential on a 94 3.0 4Runner. I can twist it side to side, but can not lift it out. Tried to gently pry it up using flathead, but no luck. FSM does not indicate anything special about removal. Am I missing something?

First off, that is your ABS sensor, not your speed sensor on the rear diff.
Second, I assume you removed the one bolt that holds it on. It should pop right out after that.

Zuk, do you know if the ECU looks to this sensor for cruise control operation? My cruise control throws a normal code and I have checked just about every other sensor. Also have a problem with ABS and thought both CC and ABS might look at this sensor.

My cruise control works fine with that sensor ziptied up by the gastank. So, like mt. goat said, I don't think the ecu reads that for cruise control.

What effect on the ABS system does this speed sensor have if it is faulty? May be a stupid question, but from what it sounds like you could disconnect it without loss of ABS.

The speed sensor for the CC is on the back of the transfer case. Where DC pointed out. It also controls the speedo, odo, and tripmeter. Just an FYI......

x's 3, that is the only abs sensor on the rear axle, so I doubt the abs will work at all with it pulled. I can't say for certain as I haven't done any high speed stomp on the brake, stops since pulling mine. I'm just glad I was able to pull it and not have the abs light on all the time.
