Spartan locker not disengaging! please help

So I've been searching for the last few days and can't find any awnsers. So to the question.

The other day we installed a spartan locker into the front end my buddys samurai ( I know It's a Toyota site but alot of you are very knowledgeable and figured you could help) we falled the terrible instructions to a T. When we installed the third member back into the axle and went for a drive it was popping very loudly and was unturnable in 4wd. and it would not unlock aso we spun the tires first to lock it but could not get it to unlock any ideas here? please help

link to instructions these are the same but better picture quality then it came with! in fact you cant see the pictures in the manual!

thanks in advance!!

Were you applying power thru the turn? Was the "drive" on the pavement?

it was on pavement but the popping was extremly loud like it was breaking something it could be heard from 2 blocks away! but pulled it back out and everything looked fine... but in the instructions it says with it in the air you should be able to lock and unlock it by spinning the tires.

Yeah I think it says something like spin tires in opposite directions or something. I know after I installed mine, I ran the front end thru pretty thoroughly on the jack stands. I haven't field tested it yet. The locker doesn't disengage. It ratchets under "no load" conditions like coasting thru turns.

Hmm, sounds like the springs aren't de-compressing off load causing it to be locked up all the time...

I have an aussie up front and it did the same thing to me on pavement. Under any load it will not unlock. try locking the hubs but leaving it in 2wd. this will never put any load on the carrier and you should be able to drive it fine on pavement. just will some general clicking.

Off road it is much easier to turn while locked because the tires just slide on the dirt.

Did you do the spin test?

Also, you should never drive in 4wd on pavement. Especially with the locker in there. Take it to a gravel lot or something next time.

Scuba is correct.

it sounds like ya'll are applying power (read as; giving it gas) that will cause it to stay locked.

try going around a corner COASTING..that means no power will be going to the axles and you should be just fine.

if you have it jacked up on stands and can not get the tires to spin in opposite directions with a clicking sound. you have something wrong inside. it should be fairly easy to get the lockers teeth to sleep by each other.

as stated before. if there is any sort of torq. going down the front d-shaft, the locker will not unlock.

Im very confused on this, as I though a spartan was the same as an aussie, just a simpler install. If this is the case, then NO, you wont be able to jack the truck up, and spin the tires in opposite dircetions. A lunchboc locker works like a ratchet wrench. One trie can travel FASTER than the ring gear, but not slower, or in the other direction. As far as in locking and unlocking. Thats the nature of a drop in locker. My aussie would pop no matter what, on gas or off. Would get real weird if u were in a trun with clutch out, and pushed it in while you were in the tunr. Alot of the popping, and unloading noises are goin to be dependent on how close to spec your side wahsers were when you put them in.
