I even thought of putting a 4runner tire swing on the rear of my truck. Any one done this ???

My spare is a 35 to match the others, so I couldnt mount it under the bed. I had it sitting flat in the bed for a few years before I got tired of cleaning out all the crap that collects underneath it. I made this out of 1 3/4" tubing and some rectangle tubing that I had found. I made it so that if I pulled out the pins closest to the cab it would sit flat (so I could put my dirt bike in the back w/o removing the spare) I like the extra room that it freed up and now my spare is secure from theft.

I made the pins out of some wing nuts and some round stock that I welded together because I couldnt find any of those quick release pins in the right length at the time, and since then I have been to lazy/cheap to find the right ones.

To mount the tire, I used all thread through the middle of the center rectangular piece - after I sleeved it. I used a nut on each side of the rectangular piece to keep it in place. I welded the nut that faces down to keep it from backing off. Then I cut a piece of diamond plate round to hold down the tire and welded a nut inside of that. I drilled out the all thread on the tip to add a lock.

that looks awesome man! but as far as my spare it sits in my closet and I only take it out for long trips. I figure if I'm close to home it's no big deal to me to walk, but i can easily find a ride too.

I keep my 33 in the bed for now. I have a friend that's going to make me a carrier similar to the CBI Offroad one that will go in the 2" receiver on my All Pro bumper. Otherwise, I have no problems with it in the bed.

It's really not that heavy, I think that the tire/wheel weighs more than the rack that I built does. I used .095 tubing, but that was because its what I had left over from a previous project....mine is also a daily driver.

A 10.50 will fit, I had to cut the brackets off toward the rear of the vehicle (left the ones keeping the tire away from the exhaust)

i don't know why a 12.5 wouldn't fit. it would hang down pretty low but i think i it could be done.

I have a 33x12.5 in the stock location on a 1st gen 4Runner. It does extend down a little bit, but for normal driving (streets and highways), it is fine. It is accessible, but not in the way. If you try to put it there, make sure that the tire is a few inches from the exhaust pipe, and you will have to tweak the rear load proportioning valve arm so that is doesn't get caught on the tire.

If I need clearance, I have a swing-out tire carrier (removable) for my rear bumper for off-road.
