Just wondering what kind of replacement leaf springs are good for a 94, 4x4 regular cab pickup? Hit a nasty pothole the other day and apparently the middle spring cracked in half. They were original anyways, so probably time for new ones. Any suggestions for a full leaf pack are appreciated!

 

Jc Whitney sells complete leaf packs made by John r Spring for $160 a side . Stock height . Shipping may be a killer though.

 

Look local.

Google "Coils and Springs" and the city where you live.

Prices should be on par with mail order or better and usually You can select they type of spring/ride your after or just tell them I want stock.

I know of 2 shops within 10 miles of me.

 

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably go online, the only local spring place around me wanted to add-a-leaf and then temper the old ones for $500. Didn't really sound like a great deal if I can have a brand new packs bought and installed for around that price. Local stores for parts are limited to Napa and O'reillys. Neither or which had any great options in stock. Any suggestions on a particular brand?

 

Your local parts retailer isn't going to stock leaf springs. Not enough demand for them to keep them in inventory. I'd go with OME, AllPro, Deaver, etc. You get what you pay for, in leaf springs.

 

Or skip the stockers and go with chevy leaf swap.

That threads for a taco, little bit more welding on a 94. You would have to relocate spring hangers, same goes for the chev 63's which are awesome as well but reallllly long.

Yes, need new front and rear mounts. Many companies like SKY and FrontRange that make kits to help you hang them.

 

Spring shops can be strange at times.

Like other places quite a few don`t want to mess with the little guy I have been told at some they don`t get springs for foreign vehicles or the price quoted was so high as to make it not worth it.

For stock springs I have had great luck with General Spring out of Kansas City

Cheaper right to the shop. New u-bolts and all new hardware here in the great salt belt I have never been able to get the bolts out of the bushings they just seize in the metal sleeve .

I have yet to come up with a way to get them out intact.

it should be around 25 but at the pick n pull in my neck of the woods they want 75 per spring

id say look on craigslist i have about 3 sets of stock springs id probably just give away

 

If you go the bone yard rout; i did run into issues with the bolts in the leaf bushings, so i would find a truck and the very first thing i would do is try and crack those bolts. I actually found a 93 that broke free with little effort. just luck i guess good luck!

 

I got my 150 springs from general spring. They were $110ish per side. But like mentioned the shipping is the killer. But their nice and new

 

I know if I go to all the trouble to remove springs There are brand new ones going on.

Besides go to all the trouble to put used ones in let the vehicle down and it now sits on the bump stops!!! What now??

I learned that lesson long ago interesting how doing extra labor helps one remember things.

It is a shame back in the olden days as long as your main leaf was intact any leaf spring could be rebuilt . I also watched coil springs being made from round bar stock with a extra turn or two to give it some extra lift.

Now with Labor rates and legal issues it is seldom done if at all.

 

Spend the extra and buy new. Plan on having to buy new hanger bolts since the old ones will likely be seized the the bushings and new shackles.
